The Ryan Family

Other brothers and first cousins on the Loughery side of Matt Ryan's family who have played college sports:

Hartman: Mike starred at catcher at La Salle University and earned first team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 1996. Product of Archbishop Wood (Class of '92) . . . Emily starred in basketball (850 career points) and softball at Philadelphia University ('98). Product of Villa Joseph Marie ('94) in Holland, Bucks County.

Loughery: John Jr., a freshman, is a backup QB at Elon University (N.C.). Starred at Penn Charter ('11), then did a postgrad year at Hun School (N.J.).

McCain: Sam, a redshirt freshman, is a backup defensive back at Sacred Heart University (Conn.). He starred at Archbishop Wood ('11), primarily at linebacker.

McGlinchey: Not yet. Mike, a senior at Penn Charter and the oldest sibling, is committed to Notre Dame.

Ryan: Mike played one year as a backup quarterback at Widener before an auto accident (shattered elbow, among other arm injuries) ended his career. He starred at Malvern ('00) . . . John, a senior, is a backup QB at Brown University. He starred at Penn Charter ('08).

Tarpey: Janet starred in soccer and lacrosse (first-team All-America) at Philly U ('04) and was recently inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. Also a VJM grad ('00).

(John Loughery Sr. starred in the three major sports at Penn Charter, class of 1978, and was Boston College's QB starter in the '79 and '80 seasons. He has no brothers. His sisters are Patty Hartman, Debbie Tarpey, Bernie Ryan, Mary Jane McCain and Janet McGlinchey.)
