Woman killed, others injured in Delco hit and run

One motorist was killed and a others were injured after a Delaware County driver went careening down a Chester Street Wednesday night crashing into eight cars while trying to flee.

Police said the driver, a woman from Chester, was traveling east on 7th Street when she allegedly crashed into two occupied cars at Barclay Street. The drivers received non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

She then fled the scene still traveling east and crashed head-on into a car at the intersection of Sproul Road. Her identity was not immediately available, police said.

The driver of the car that was struck, a woman in her early fifties from Brookhaven Borough, later died of her injuries at Crozer Chester Medical Center, police said.

The identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The fleeing car was pushed into a fourth vehicle which was occupied. The fleeing driver continued on striking four parked cars before stopping.

Police said a blood alcohol sample was taken from the alleged hit-and-run driver for analysis. They are continuing to investigate the incident and do not have further detail available at this time.
