W. Pa. program set up for veterans, justice system

Posted: November 01, 2012

PITTSBURGH - The Department of Justice says it is partnering with the Veterans Affairs Department to create a system for veterans facing criminal charges. U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton said in a release Wednesday that veterans are increasingly getting entangled in the criminal justice system because of mental-health and substance-dependency issues related to their service. The program will provide treatment options through the VA in Pittsburgh. A district judge will approve entry into the program, and community volunteers will provide support services. - AP
