PW's Kaiser earns state tennis title

A year after falling short in the final, Cristina Kaiser of Plymouth Whitemarsh defeated Callie Frey of Mount Lebanon, 7-5, 6-3, to win the PIAA Class AAA girls' singles tennis championship Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

Kaiser topped Zaina Zaki of Unionville, 6-1, 6-4, in a semifinal earlier in the day. Frey topped Harriton's Hannah Drayton, 6-3, 6-2, in the other semifinal.

Kaiser had lost in last year's final, 6-1, 6-2, to Plum's Ronit Yorovsky.

Another singles player and two doubles teams from the area lost in their semifinal matches Saturday.

In Class AAA, Danielle Mustin and Christie Cesarini of Wissahickon fell to Sara Komer and Abby Cummings of Peters Township, 6-2, 6-2, and Abington's Molly Bair and Amirah Salim lost to Oakland Catholic's Nicole Cyterski and Megan Wasson, 6-3, 6-0.

Genevieve Hobson of New Hope-Solebury was beaten, 6-3, 6-2, by Quaker Valley's Spencer Caravaggio in Class AA singles.
