AP: Obama wins Pa.

Posted: November 07, 2012

Despite a late push by Republican Mitt Romney into Pennsylvania, including a TV ad blitz and a huge campaign rally 48 hours before Election Day, President Obama on Tuesday won the swing state that first helped him win the presidency four years ago, according to unofficial returns.

The Pennsylvania victory was secured with significant backing from Philadelphia, where Obama was winning with 84 percent of the vote, and among African Americans, who voted in numbers that may have exceeded turnout in 2008.

The Associated Press called the state for Obama a little after 9:45 p.m.

The apparent victory was coupled with a decisive and expected win in New Jersey, where neither candidate campaigned.

Asked about Obama's apparent Pennsylvania victory after three networks projected his win, but before AP did, Gov. Corbett said: "There's a long way to go." He was unavailable for comment after the AP projection.
