Posted: November 12, 2012

Jane Reed Goslin, 89, of Berwyn, a librarian and homemaker, died Friday, Nov. 2, of natural causes at home.

Born in Riverton, Burlington County, Mrs. Goslin was raised on a farm in Paoli and later lived in Wayne. She graduated from Radnor High School in 1942 and attended Georgetown Visitation College in Washington in the mid-1940s.

In 1947, she married John G. Goslin Jr. The two met at the Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown.

Early in their marriage, the Goslins paid $25 a month to rent a dilapidated 200-year-old stone house in Devon. Her husband repaired the rotting stairs and floors and installed electricity, said their son, John G. Goslin III. Before that, a coal stove was used for heat and cooking.

In 1957, Mrs. Goslin and her husband moved to Berwyn, where they renovated another 18th-century house. She lived there until her death. Her husband died on Nov. 2, 2011.

Mrs. Goslin pumped gas during World War II. She retired in the late 1980s after working as a saleswoman at the Wayne Book & Record shop. She worked as a librarian at the Easttown Library in the 1970s.

She volunteered with the Wayne Women's Exchange and as a poll watcher for 30 years on the Election Board in Easttown Township.

She traveled in Europe and throughout the United States, and spent time in Stone Harbor at the Jersey Shore. Once, while she was on a photography safari in Kenya, a baboon jumped on her back. "She didn't mind very much. We were animal people," her son said. She also loved gardening and big band music.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Goslin is survived by nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at St. Monica Roman Catholic Church, 63 Main Ave., Berwyn, to be be followed by a reception at the family home. Mrs. Goslin was cremated. Interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Skycastle French Hounds, c/o James F. Scharnberg, MBH, 20 Beatty Lane, Malvern, Pa. 19355.
