Buehrle hounded by another ban

POOR MARK Buehrle.

On Tuesday, the lefthander and two other Marlin stars were traded to the Blue Jays.

That could end up being good for Buehrle, but not so good for his dog, Slater.

Slater was not allowed in Miami's Dade County because of a pit bull ban. Sadly, he won't be welcome in the province of Ontario - where the Blue Jays play - because of a similar ban.

Buehrle, you'll remember is a passionate dog lover who once tweeted that he wished Michael Vick would be injured.

Buehrle lived outside of Dade County when he played with the Marlins, and unsuccessfully petitioned to have the ban changed.

No telling where he'll live now. By car, Buffalo is closer than any of the cities in Quebec, the nearest province that allows pit bulls.

Buehrle hasn't said what he'll do, but you can be assured that he'll put Slater first even it means a long commute on game day.

Bank on Shanahan

Here's a safe bet concerning Sunday's Eagles-Redskins game: Washington coach Mike Shanahan will arrive at the stadium with more money on him than Andy Reid.

At least he will if the past is any indication.

On Oct. 28, when the Redskins lost to the Steelers in Pittsburgh, Shanahan filed a police report claiming his passport and $3,700 had been taken from his locker.

The next day he withdrew the report after discovering both were in another bag.

Must be nice to have $3,700 in walking-around money.

Quack, quack

Magic star Arron Afflalo probably wishes Rasheed Wallace had stayed retired.

On Tuesday, the former Gratz High star who signed with the unbeaten Knicks last month, got a little loud after Afflalo missed a free throw in the first quarter.

"Yeah, AFLAC!" yelled Wallace.

We can't help but think that years from now, Afflalo will cringe whenever he's asked how he got his nickname.
