College Basketball: Baylor women lose at last

Stanford snapped defending national champion Baylor's 42-game winning streak Friday, winning by 71-69 when player of the year Brittney Griner missed a short turnaround at the buzzer in Honolulu.

Griner scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half, helping the Bears (2-1) rally from a 14-point deficit. But her shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim, and Stanford celebrated.

Chiney Ogwumike scored 18 points to lead the fourth-ranked Cardinal (3-0), who lost to Baylor in the national semifinals last season by 12 points.

Men

Kentucky 101, Lafayette 49 - Kyle Wiltjer hit seven three-pointers and scored 23 points, and the No. 3 Wildcats routed the 1-2 Leopards in their home opener. The Wildcats (2-1) shot 65 percent from the field.

Elsewhere: Colorado (3-0) took down No. 16 Baylor, 60-58, at the Charleston Classic in S.C. Askia Booker scored 19 for the Buffaloes, who were knocked out of the NCAA tournament last March by the Bears (3-1). . . . Shabazz Napier scored 16 to lead No. 23 Connecticut (3-0) to a 77-71 victory over 1-1 Wake Forest in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

Owls join tourney field. Temple will play in the 2013 Charleston (S.C.) Classic for the second time in five seasons. Joining the Owls will be Clemson, Georgia, Alabama-Birmingham, New Mexico, and Nebraska. Two teams will be announced later.
