La Salle shoots past Hartford

La Salle's Tyreek Duren (Neumann-Goretti) had 15 points, while Jerrell Wright (Dobbins Tech) added 14 and nine rebounds as the Exlorers defeated Hartford, 64-51, in West Hartford, Conn., on Tuesday night.

It was a great homecoming for La Salle's Rohan Brown, a Hartford native, who grabbed his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Ramon Galloway added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Mark Nwakamma led the Hawks (1-3) with 16 points and nine rebounds.

La Salle coach John Giannini praised his team's defensive effort.

"That was the biggest factor in the game," he said. "I was very concerned that if they were comfortable defensively, we would have a hard time winning the game. We just tried to use our quickness defensively and tried to take them out of their rhythm and I thought our guys did a good job with it."

Giannini also singled out the performances of Wright and especially Brown, who, he said, "brings the physical toughness of a big guy and the decision-making and low turnovers of a guard" to the game.

La Salle (2-1) next hosts Villanova at 1 p.m. Sunday (CBS Sports Network).
