IRVING, Texas - Dallas Cowboys practice-squad linebacker Jerry Brown was killed in a one-car accident early Saturday and teammate Josh Brent has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Police said the crash happened about 2:20 a.m. on a service road. Brent, 24, was driving his 2007 Mercedes at a high rate of speed when the vehicle hit a curb and flipped over at least once.
Police spokesman John Argumaniz said Brown, 25, was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Officers conducted a field sobriety test on Brent and arrested him. His blood-alcohol content was not released.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry's family and all of those who knew him and loved him."
