St. Joseph's forward Halil Kanacevic has been suspended for two games because of obscene gestures he directed at Villanova's student section during Tuesday night's loss to the Wildcats, coach Phil Martelli said Wednesday.
Kanacevic, a 6-foot-8 junior, also will not participate in practice and any team activities for one week except for the team's annual Christmas charity event. He will sit out the Hawks' home games Dec. 22 against Fairfield and Dec. 28 against Iona.
Kanacevic hit a three-point basket with just under 10 minutes to play at the Pavilion to give the Hawks a 50-47 lead. As he backpedaled to St. Joe's defensive end, he made the gestures to the Villanova students behind the basket.
