Phillies' opener in Atlanta to air on ESPN2

THE PHILLIES will begin the 2013 season in less than 3 months in a nationally televised night game from Atlanta.

ESPN announced Thursday it would carry the Phillies-Braves game from Turner Field on ESPN2 on Monday, April 1, at 7 p.m. The game is part of the network's Opening Day doubleheader, with St. Louis at Arizona serving as the nightcap.

It's the second time the Phillies will open at night in the last 5 years.

ESPN will televise two games on its regular network earlier in the day: Red Sox at Yankees (1 p.m.) and Giants at Dodgers (4).

The major league season gets under way a night earlier, on Sunday, March 31, when the Houston Astros host the Texas Rangers at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

The Phillies' home opener is set for Friday, April 5, at 4:05 p.m. when they'll welcome the Kansas City Royals to Citizens Bank Park.

On another front, the Phillies hired Nelson Prada to be the manager of short-season Williamsport.

Andy Tracy, who had been Williamsport's manager in 2012, was named minor league hitting coordinator in November.
