Sidney A. Grossman, 87, a haberdasher from Northeast Philadelphia who became a card dealer at an Atlantic City casino, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, of heart failure at a nursing home in Northfield, N.J.

Mr. Grossman was raised in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion section and attended Simon Gratz High School.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed in Panama and earned the rank of corporal.

Mr. Grossman was married to Barbara Grossman. The marriage ended in divorce. He later married Shirley Kramer.

In the 1950s and '60s, Mr. Grossman worked as a clothing salesman at Krass Bros., a men's clothing store on South Street.

He later opened his own shop, Cedar Gardens Men's Store, outside Trenton.

In the 1980s, while in his 50s, Mr. Grossman switched careers and became a card dealer at the Claridge casino, now part of Bally's Atlantic City.

"He was a huge Frank Sinatra fan, and he enjoyed playing the piano and harmonica," said his nephew, former Pennsylvania State Sen. Robert Rovner.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Grossman is survived by a daughter, Fern; a son, Scott; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Friday, Jan. 4, at Beth Kehillah Cemetery in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
