Flagged for disorderly conduct

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. - A man who climbed a New Jersey roller coaster that fell into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy and who unfurled an American flag there will face a disorderly conduct charge.

Christopher Angelo, 38, of Lavallette, used a canoe to reach the site Tuesday morning. After putting the flag in place, he left the coaster and hopped into a police boat. He was then handcuffed, walked through the surf and escorted to a police car on the beach in Seaside Heights.

Angelo says he acted to raise awareness for Shore recovery. The remnants of the Jet Star Roller Coaster have become one of the iconic images of the superstorm.

Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd said that no further charges will likely be filed against Angelo.
