Merchantville School closed Thursday because of threat

Posted: January 10, 2013

Merchantville School in Camden County will be closed Thursday so police can investigate an "unspecified threat" found in the boys' bathroom, said Edward Bohn, president of the school board.

Bohn said he could not elaborate on the threat or say whether police have swept the school property for explosives or weapons. "An active investigation has been started, and police are asking that all parents speak to their kids about this incident," Bohn said. "Anyone with any information can call the police department and all conversations will be confidential."

The school enrolls about 350 students in prekindergarten through eighth grade, Bohn said. The threat was discovered Wednesday and police were immediately notified, he said.    - Robert Moran
