Sports in Brief: ACC star QB Tajh Boyd returning to Clemson

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd, the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, said Wednesday he will return to Clemson for his senior season.

Also staying at their schools are Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, the Big Ten's offensive lineman of the year, and Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum.

Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray, wide receivers Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson, and defensive end Darrington Sentimore are bypassing their senior seasons to enter the NFL draft.

Eastern Washington receiver Brandon Kaufman has signed with an agent and will skip his senior season.

Alabama hired Colorado defensive coordinator Greg Brown as secondary coach. Jeremy Pruitt left to become Florida State's defensive coordinator.

Georgia hired Mississippi State defensive coordinator Chris Wilson as its defensive line coach. He replaces Rodney Garner, who took a job at Auburn.

Four former La Salle athletes will be inducted Feb. 9 into the university's Hall of Athletes.

Frank S. Blatcher '56 (men's basketball); Kevin J. Coleman '05 (men's soccer); Melanie Coots Platchek '02 (women's diving); and Jon Walheim '66 (men's swimming) will be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game against Fordham that day.

WINTER SPORTS:Lindsey Vonn is set to make her return to World Cup downhill training in Austria on Thursday after an absence of more than three weeks because of an intestinal illness.

GOLF: Annika Sorenstam cut the index finger on her left hand above the top knuckle during a cooking accident last Thursday, USAToday.com reported.

TENNIS:John Isner withdrew from the Australian Open because of a knee injury, leaving No. 22 Sam Querrey as the highest-ranked U.S. man in the season's first Grand Slam tournament. He lost to fellow American Ryan Harrison in straight sets in the Sydney International on Wednesday.

The WTA said that total prize money for the 54 events in 2013, not including Grand Slam tournaments, will rise from $53.3 million to $58.7 million.
