Dance competition
Reality TV dance shows have nothing on this: The Youth America Grand Prix is an annual worldwide student ballet scholarship competition, open to dancers 9 to 19 and awarding more than $250,000 in scholarships to leading dance schools. Previous winners now dance with companies including the American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, and Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg. The U.S. part of the competition starts with semifinals in 12 cities from January to March and culminates in the final in New York in April. The local leg is at Swarthmore College's Lang Performing Arts Center, 500 College Ave., Swarthmore. Admission: $5 for audience members (all-day ticket).
