Yoga teacher and medium Alaine Portner of Medford facilitated a human pod of 20 dolphin lovers in late September on her second annual retreat in Bimini for a week of snorkeling, yoga, breathwork, bodywork, and spiritual mediumship sessions. Each activity supports a feeling of harmony, enhancing a sense of wonderment at the mysteries of life, and even afterlife.

The group gathered in Florida, and took a chartered flight 50 miles from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini. The Bahamian destination is actually three small islands, all surrounded by warm, clear turquoise waters that attract sea seekers from around the globe. Colorful reefs are inhabited by schools of glittering fish, turtles, sting rays, eels, and an assortment of underwater creatures.

Travelers from as far as Germany, Portugal, and the Netherlands joined Portner's Dolphin Dream retreat, organized through Wildquest. Early-morning yoga poses encouraged participants' muscles to relax through conscious breathing. Layers of the emotional body began to melt away in the yoga room and the spiritual self emerged. Participants were prepared to meet the dolphins with that same sense of calm and minimal intrusion.

After yoga each day, a catamaran took the travelers out to sea. The bottlenose and spotted dolphins were playful, and the humans eased themselves into the water with them.

The effects of days at sea were mesmerizing as the travelers found their bodies and minds continuing to sway on land.

Portner's workshops at sea focused on dreams. The travelers were asking questions about the mysteries of life, about dolphin magic. The connections were seamless when they heard the clicking, squeals, and water rushes that they typically hear only on yoga CDs.

Each day of the Wildquest adventure brought new reefs, sightings, and experiences. The final evening, Portner's pod connected to their loved ones, relatives who had passed to the other side. She offered a channeling session to fuse the heaven and earth worlds together, a fitting finale to a life-changing adventure. - Alaine Portner
