Temple hires Phil Snow as defensive coordinator

TEMPLE'S new football coach, Matt Rhule, has hired a defensive coordinator. Phil Snow comes to North Broad Street after three seasons holding the same positon at Eastern Michigan.

Both were on the UCLA staff in 2001.

"I could not have wanted to bring any coach [here with me] more than Phil Snow," Rhule said in a statement.

Snow - who was an assistant coach with the Detroit Lions in 2005-08 and has also been a DC at Boise State, Arizona State, UCLA and Washington - replaces Chuck Heater, who is leaving for the same position at Marshall. He held the job the past 2 years under Steve Addazio, but will be rejoining former Temple defensive line coach Sean Cronin, his son-in-law.

Rhule also added Jeremy Scott - whom he's had a relationship with since his playing days at Penn State - as his strength and conditioning coach. Scott worked for the Nittany Lions the last 14 seasons.

"I've known him forever," Rhule said.

Sources confirmed an OwlScoop.com report that Rhule is considering former North Carolina (2007-11) offensive coordinator John Shoop to fill that role. Nevada OC Nick Rolovich had accepted the job in late December but over the weekend decided to remain with the Wolf Pack instead for personal and financial reasons.
