Ed Barkowitz: PUT BRAKES ON ROAD RAGE SITUATIONS

Posted: January 20, 2013

Q: I find it to be a pain in the butt when I am on the highway and the person in the left lane is driving 40-50 mph. It is called the passing lane, buddy. At what point can I hit the horn or flash my lights?

- In a Hurry but not a Rush from Ridley

A: Slow down,'bro. It's not worth getting worked up with road rage over some slow driver, because these days you've got a lot of crazy people out there, and there's no telling what they'd do if confronted.

Keeping a safe distance and flashing the brights once is cool, but if you keep doing it and the driver still doesn't move to the right, then it could turn into a game of wills.

I don't think it's ever a good idea to honk at somebody on the highway unless it's an emergency. Don't worry about how other people drive, just make sure you drive safely and defensively at all times. That's my advice. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

Q: I think I am last person on Earth to put music on my iPod. How about some songs that are musts in your opinion?

- Jammin' Jeff in Jenkintown

A: Dude, what's an iPod? I'm not big on downloading music but I love listening to my 8-track tapes when driving in the car.

Seriously, I love many types of music and my tastes at any given time could be a reflection of my mood more than specific musts or go-to favorites. Sometimes I like to listen to Sinatra only, other times I prefer old-school jams. Whatever and whenever is how I like my music.

As far as my opinion on what should be on your iPod, that's why it's called "your" iPod, 'bro. Download what you like. It's not like I'm coming over any time soon to hang with you and listen to your music. Build your collection with an open mind, as well as open ears.
