Women's College Basketball: Temple overcomes furious Penn rally

After building a 24-point lead in the second half, Temple had to hold off a furious Penn rally before putting away the Quakers, 59-51, Wednesday night at the Palestra.

The win improved the Owls' record to 8-10, 1-1 in the Big 5, while Penn finished the city series at 1-3. Victoria Macaulay led three Owls in double figures with 15 points, nearly making it a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds.

Providence 65, Villanova 60 - The Friars (6-12, 1-4 Big East) outscored the visiting Wildcats, 14-9, in overtime for their first conference win. Villanova fell to 15-3, 4-1.

Notre Dame 73, Pittsburgh 47 - Kayla McBride scored 19 points to help the second-ranked Fighting Irish throttle the host Panthers for their 12th straight win. Notre Dame (17-1, 6-0 Big East) led 60-32 with 10 minutes left and coasted from there. The Panthers (9-9, 0-5) haven't won a Big East game since Feb. 15, 2011.

Syracuse 60, St. John's 57 - In Big East action in New York, freshman Brittney Sykes stole the ball and hit a 50-foot, half-court shot at the buzzer to lift the Orange over the Red Storm.

Holy Family 86, Chestnut Hill, 53 - With four players in double figures, the visiting Tigers easily handled the Griffins to win their fourth straight. The Tigers improved to 16-2, 10-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Chestnut Hill fell to 2-14, 0-9 CACC.

Baylor 66, Iowa St. 51 - The top-ranked Bears roared past the Cyclones in Big 12 action in Ames, Iowa. Baylor (17-1, 7-0 Big 12) took control early, running off 17 straight points in the first half while holding the Cyclones (13-4, 4-3) scoreless for 111/2 minutes.
