Dominick Petrucelli hasn't forgotten about last year.

As an Owen J. Roberts freshman wrestler, Petrucelli lost a 9-0 bout to Upper Perkiomen junior Dylan Steffenino in January 2012, one of only two losses in his team's 53-7 road victory.

Upper Perkiomen coach Tom Hontz hasn't forgotten about last year, either. In fact, he was counting on history repeating itself in Saturday's rematch of the Wildcats and Indians in a league dual at Owen J. Roberts.

Hontz moved Steffenino up from 126 pounds to 132 to face Petrucelli.

The move backfired.

Petrucelli upset Steffenino, 2-0, in a crucial early-match decision, jump-starting Owen J. Roberts' 44-15 win in a Pioneer Athletic Conference showdown.

"I guess they were thinking, strategy-wise, that he's better than me," Petrucelli said. "But I just went out there and did what I had to do."

Owen J. Roberts stayed undefeated atop the PAC-10, improving to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference. Upper Perkiomen dropped to 14-5 and moved into fourth place at 5-2 in the PAC-10.

Owen J. Roberts pinned Upper Perkiomen five times in front of a home crowd in a nearly full gymnasium. Upper Perkiomen failed to pick up any bonus points in the match despite having some of the top-ranked wrestlers in District 1, according to pa-wrestling.com.

"I thought that our kids wrestled with a high tempo," Roberts coach Stephen DeRafelo said. "We were pushing the pace in most of the matches."

Upper Perkiomen senior Wolfgang McStravick, ranked No. 2 in District 1 at 138 pounds, won a 7-3 decision to cut Owen J. Roberts' lead to 9-6 early, but the Indians got no closer.

The Wildcats picked up a technical fall at 145 pounds and had pins at 136, 160, 182, 285, and 113, the match's final bout.

"Our kids managed to stay off their backs," DeRafelo said. "In dual meets, that's really key. That pin's worth two wins, so you can't get pinned. Our kids did a really good job of that."

Owen J. Roberts will travel to face Pottstown on Wednesday, and Upper Perkiomen will host Perkiomen Valley.

The District 1 Class AAA duals, the team tournament, will resume with quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Friday at Upper Dublin. Owen J. Roberts will face Downingtown East, and Upper Perkiomen will wrestle Boyertown.
