Nets beat Magic for eighth straight at home

Deron Williams had 20 points and nine assists, and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Orlando Magic, 97-77, on Monday night in New York for their eighth straight home victory.

Brook Lopez scored 16 points and Joe Johnson had 13 for the Nets, who tied a franchise record with their 11th victory in January and can break it when they host the NBA champion Miami Heat on Wednesday.

Elsewhere: David Lee had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Stephen Curry scored 17 points before leaving with an injury, and the Golden State Warriors beat the host Toronto Raptors, 114-102.. . . Isaiah Thomas made a floater with a second to play as the visiting Sacramento Kings broke a four-game losing streak with a 96-94 win over the Washington Wizards.

Welcome back

Minnesota's Rick Adelman was back on the court and coaching on Monday after taking three weeks away to attend to something really important: helping his wife Mary Kay through a health scare, which he declined to discuss.

The Wolves lost nine of 11 games without him, but he said his wife is improving and the worst may be over.

2012 winners meet

President Obama, coming off a victory of his own, welcomed the Miami Heat to White House to offer kudos on winning the 2012 NBA championship.

LeBron James, who presented the Prez with an autographed basketball, said the team was honored.

"We're in the White House right now, which is like, 'Mama, I made it!' " James said to laughs and cheers from the crowd.


Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro, after Sunday's 96-83 win over Portland: "We needed any kind of a win. We're trying to accumulate as many as we can, and then we'll count them up at the end of the year and see where we're at."
