Lawmaker moves to pare Penn State trustee board

Posted: February 01, 2013

State Sen. Andrew Dinniman introduced legislation Thursday to reduce the size of Pennsylvania State University's board of trustees from 32 to 21.

The legislation from Dinniman (D., Chester), minority chair of the Education Committee and a Penn State alumnus, also would remove the university president from the board and make the governor a nonvoting member.

The university continues to consider changes to its structure in the wake of the child sex abuse scandal involving former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Also Thursday, the Senate's state government committee announced it would hold a hearing March 18 to examine the structure and powers of the board of trustees. - Susan Snyder
