A detective with the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office was wounded this afternoon in a parking area outside the Gloucester County Justice Complex on Hunter Street in Woodbury when the officer's service weapon accidentally discharged, according to the prosecutor's office.
The wound was not life-threatening and no other person was injured.
The detective, who is not being named because of the nature the officer's assignment, was taken to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury. County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton is at present at the hospital. The incident is under investigation by the prosecutor's office and, as is required in officer-involved shootings, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office has been notified.
