Two officers injured in unrelated gun accidents

An accidental shooting near the Gloucester County Superior Court building wounded a detective and led to the lockdown of the nearby Woodbury High School, authorities said.

It was the second accidental shooting of a law enforcement officer today.

A spokesman for the Gloucester Co. Prosecutors office said the officer's service weapon discharged about 1:30 p.m. in the parking area at the Hunter Street complex.

The detective's injuries are not considered life-threatening, said spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld, and he has been taken to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury for treatment. The officer was not identified "because of the nature the officer's assignment," Wiesenfeld said.

In Montgomery County, an officer undergoing training at the Hatfield Township firing range shot himself in the foot as he withdrew his weapon from his holster.

Sgt. Stephen Gillen, a 23-year veteran of the Upper Gwynedd police department, was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital.
