Know the killers of 6 dumped pitbulls? Collect $2,000

The remains of six mutilated pitbulls, discovered in garbage bags dumped in South Philadelphia, prompted the Pennsylvania SPCA today to offer a $2,000 reward for the arrest of the individuals responsible for the animals' deaths.

Railroad inspectors examining tracks near 26th St. and Washington Ave., found the bagged carcasses on Jan. 30. Each animal had extensive injuries and appeared to have died in the 24 hours preceding their discovery, said George Bengal, director of humane law enforcement at the PSPCA.

"Until we have more details, we don't want to speculate on the cause of the death," Bengal said in a statement. "But we do know that these animals did not die of natural causes. We urge anyone with information about how these dogs died or who placed them in that area to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Anti-Cruelty hotline at 1-866-601-SPCA. Tips can be left anonymously.
