The driver, a 19-year-old man who was speeding eastbound on Grant Avenue, lost control of his 1995 Ford Explorer on a curve and crossed over a grassy median into the westbound lanes of Grant, police said. There, he crashed into a tree at Krewstown Road shortly before 4 a.m., police said.
His female passenger, described as being in her late teens or early 20s, was thrown from the Explorer and pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 a.m., police said. Her identity and that of the driver were not released.
