Women's College Basketball: St. Joseph's women crush La Salle

St. Joseph's rolled to an 18-3 lead midway through the first half Wednesday night en route to a 68-31 win over visiting La Salle at Hagan Arena.

The Hawks (19-6, 10-1 Atlantic Ten) clinched second place in the Big Five with the victory and finished 3-1 in the City Series. La Salle (8-18, 4-7) finished in a three-way tie with Temple and Penn with 1-3 records.

Shanel Harrison posted her ninth consecutive double-digit game, leading the Explorers with 12 points. She also earned team-high rebounding honors with eight boards, while contributing two steals, a blocked shot, and an assist.

Xavier 54, Temple 53 - Jessica Pachko hit a layup with six seconds remaining to lift the visiting Musketeers to an Atlantic Ten victory over the Owls at McGonigle Hall.

Temple (12-14, 5-6 A-10) let a five-point lead slip away in the final minute and 30 seconds. The Owls' Victoria Macaulay led all scorers with 15 points, while Rateska Brown added 12 off the bench.

Pachko finished with a team-high 14 points and game-high nine rebounds for Xavier (10-15, 4-7).

Johns Hopkins 64, Haverford 59 - The visiting Fords fell to the Blue Jays in Baltimore in the opening round of the Centennial Conference tourney.

Dominique Meeks led fifth-seeded Haverford (15-10) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Calla Miller and Elizabeth Lynch chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Alex Vassila paced the fourth-seeded Blue Jays (16-10) with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Gwynedd-Mercy 68, Marywood 56 - Nicole Dougherty (Lower Moreland) had game highs of 16 points and five assists to lift the Griffins (18-8) to the Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal win in Gwynedd Valley. Gwynedd-Mercy will play at Cabrini at 6 p.m. Saturday for the championship.

Cabrini defeated Keystone, 72-62, in the other semifinal.

Shippensburg 78, West Chester 68 - The visiting Raiders made 10 straight free throws to cement their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference win.

Sarah Strybuc (Archbishop Ryan) was 15 of 16 from the free-throw line and finished with a game-high 24 points for Shippensburg (18-7, 14-6).

West Chester fell to 13-11, 10-10.

Kutztown 74, Cheyney 47 - Lachelle Miller equaled her career high of 20 points, but it wasn't enough for the visiting Wolves (1-21, 1-19 PSAC). Kyra Hines-Allen added 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Bears improved to 14-10 and 12-8.
