Temple shuts down Charlotte, 71-51

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Scootie Randall scored 18 points and Temple had its best defensive game of the season in beating Charlotte, 71-51, in an Atlantic Ten Conference game Sunday afternoon.

Khalif Wyatt added 12 points and Jake O'Brien 10 for the Owls (19-8, 8-5), who held the 49ers to 27.4 percent shooting (17 of 62) and 1 of 12 on three-pointers en route to their third straight win.

The win moved Temple into a tie for sixth in the A-10 standings with Xavier, one game behind third-place Butler and La Salle (both 9-5) with three league games remaining. The top four in the standings receive first-round berths in the conference tournament March 14-17 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Pierra Henry and Mike Thorne had 10 points each for Charlotte (18-8, 6-6), who had a 42-36 edge in rebounding, including a 20-9 advantage in offensive boards.
