Same red carpet, latest runway styles with blah hues, trendy touches

The Oscar red carpet was awash with sparkling nudes. And that, my fashion friends, was a blah way to end an awards season popping with color.

But even though starlets erred on the side of blah this year, the fashions were impeccably classy, and a few even electrified. The carpet popped with the latest runway trends, from Charlize Theron's snow-white peplum gown to Naomi Watts' asymmetrical swirling neckline. Talk about a blaze of sequins.

Among our favorite looks was Amy Adams' feathered Oscar de la Renta, Kerry Washington's crystal-bodiced Miu Miu, and Jennifer Lawrence's Dior Haute Couture. And how could we not gush over little Quvenzhané Wallis' navy-blue Giorgio Armani? Precious.

Those who could have done better?

Jessica Chastain was underwhelming in her golden Armani Prive, and our manicured thumbs are in the permanent down position for Anne Hathaway. What was Hathaway thinking when she chose that ghostly Prada? Did her halter reveal nipples or was her bodice a victim of badly done darts? SMH. And we liked Jennifer Hudson's sleeved, navy-blue Roberto Cavalli until we got a look at the slit that revealed those unsightly knock knees.

The Oscar red carpet is a final exam like no other. Let's see who made the grade.
