Bomb squad drills rattle some in Glouco

Posted: February 28, 2013

Eileen Clark heard three loud booms Tuesday: One at 11:45 a.m., then again at noon, and again at 12:10 p.m. "It sounded like a very major explosion," said Clark, 67, of Washington Township, Gloucester County. The blasts rattled nerves and some concerned residents called township police.

Authorities said the Camden County Sheriff's Department held bomb squad drills Tuesday in Lakeland, at the southern end of Gloucester Township, adjacent to Washington Township. It was not clear how many blasts were set off during the exercise.

The department holds drills fairly regularly - including one last week in Camden - county spokesman Dan Keashen said. "It's not like they're using dynamite out there," he said. - Andrew Seidman
