US Airways flight attendants ratified a new contract with an 80 percent "yes" vote that provides immediate double-digit pay increases, job protections and improved work rules, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA announced Thursday.
The contract will remain in place until the merger with American Airlines is finalized. The flight attendants pledged support for the merger and to be "full partners" with their counterparts at American.
Bargaining talks will begin within 30 days between management at US Airways, American and the two flight attendants' groups to negotiate a joint contract. US Airways employs 6,800 flight attendants, including 2,000 based in Philadelphia.
