NFL asking questions that are out of bounds?

HERE WE go again.

Three years, ago Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland was skewered when, in a predraft interview, he asked Dez Bryant if Bryant's mother was a prostitute.

On Monday, Mike Florio of NBC Sports and ProFootballTalk told radio host Dan Patrick that some teams at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis wanted to know if Notre Dame linebacker Mante Te'o was gay.

On Tuesday, former Colorado tight end Nick Kasa told ESPN radio that some of the questions he was asked at the combine were a bit personal.

"[Teams] ask you, like, 'Do you have a girlfriend? Are you married? Do you like girls?' " Kasa said. "[And] they would ask you with a straight face."

Then, on Wednesday, Kasa went on Patrick's show to clarify what he'd said: "I don't think it was a serious question . . . like do you like girls . . . ha, ha, ha," Kasa said. "I think it was more kidding around. I don't think it was an official question."

So, asked Patrick, does he?

"I definitely like girls," Kasa said. "No-brainer."

The NFL isn't laughing.

The league said Wednesday it will investigate the matter.

"I hope that they will seek out information as to what teams have engaged in this type of discrimination and we should then discuss appropriate discipline," DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFL Players Association, said in a statement.

Not so fast

Former LSU cornerback Tyrann "The Honey Badger" Mathieu may be the most confident athlete at the NFL Combine.

After running a 4.50 40, the 5-9 Mathieu said he'll have no trouble covering Calvin Johnson, aka Megatron, the 6-5 three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver with the Lions.

"I feel like if I was to check somebody like a Calvin Johnson, he'll make his plays, but I'm definitely going to get mine, too," Mathieu told the NFL Network. "He's going to catch his five balls, but I'm going to get my two turnovers, so we'll be even."
