Bristol Twp. police arrest five in shooting incident

Posted: March 03, 2013

Bristol Township police arrested five residents this week who were part of the self-titled "Black Flag Family," a group believed by police to be responsible for "a lot of chaos" in the area, according to police Lt. Terry Hughes.

A getaway driver, not considered to be part of the gang, also was arrested. All of those taken into custody were between 17 and 24.

The arrests centered on an incident Feb. 20, when the suspects allegedly followed an unidentified minor off a school bus and shot at him, according to police records.

Records say Nicholas Ricciardi, 21; Michael Kurfuss, 19; and Dennis Rose, 19, approached the minor and threatened to rob him. The minor told police that he had been in a dispute with them about a girl.

After refusing to hand over his cellphone, the minor began to run, records say, at which point Rose fired a shot, missing the boy. The suspects then got into two cars and fled, records say.

One of the getaway drivers was identified as Caroline Kolb, 17. She is being charged as an adult, police said. The other driver was Joseph Callora, 24, according to records.

Michael Mckernan, 20, who police said was also a member of the gang, was arrested as well. Records say he admitted knowing about the robbery and "assisted" his friends with the robbery.

Charges for those arrested included robbery and criminal conspiracy.

Rose was found guilty of retail theft in September 2012, and disorderly conduct in May and August 2012, and was charged with terroristic threats in June 2012. Those charges were dismissed.

Kurfuss pleaded guilty to public drunkenness in March 2012.

Attempts to reach the suspects or their relatives for comment were unsuccessful.
