Sat. Pa. boys and girls: Communications, N-G prevail in District 12

Terrence Brown scored 19 points Saturday to lead Communications Tech to the District 12 Class AA boys' basketball championship, and Tanesha Sutton's 20 points led Neumann-Goretti to the girls' title.

Brown, a senior forward, grabbed six rebounds and was named game MVP, and the Phoenix topped Conwell-Egan, 70-60, at St. Joseph's Prep.

Brown scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter.

David Johnson added 19 points and three assists.

Sutton, a junior shooting guard, scored 14 points in the second half as Neumann-Goretti eased past Imhotep Charter, 57-26, also at Prep. The Saints held a 13-point advantage at halftime.

Girls' Basketball

Taylor Bearden scored five of her 12 points in the third quarter as Pope John Paul II rode a big second half to a 44-30 victory over Lower Moreland in the District 1 Class AAA third-place game at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

The Golden Panthers outscored Lower Moreland by 25-13 after halftime. Ellen Chernaskey scored six points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Pope John Paul II. Lower Moreland was led by Lauren Killion (10 points).

Regan Gallagher led all players with 23 points as Upper Dublin held on for a 57-55 road win over West Chester Rustin in the Class AAAA third-place game. Gallagher took advantage of her trips to the free-throw line, going 7 for 8. Noelle Powell scored 18 points for Rustin.

Corrine Godshall and Nicole Munger each scored 11 points as Central Bucks West beat host North Penn, 63-41, in the Class AAAA fifth-place game. The Bucks outscored North Penn, 29-13, in the first half. Lauren Crisler had 19 points for the Maidens.

Jenna Carroll was perfect from the foul line in the second half, leading Methacton to a 59-40 home win over Garnet Valley in the AAAA ninth-place game.

Carroll, who went 7 for 7 from the line after halftime, scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half, when the Warriors outscored Garnet Valley, 35-22.

Boys' Basketball

Jerome Staley drilled two three-pointers, and Declo Christian eased past Phil-Mont Christian, 49-39, in the District 1 Class A third-place game.

The senior guard scored six points in the fourth quarter and finished with a team-high 16. Zach Dolton led Phil-Mont with 17.
