Robbery near Temple not isolated?

Posted: March 07, 2013

MONDAY'S home-invasion robbery in which four Temple students were bound with duct tape by three gunmen in their near-campus apartment in North Philadelphia may be part of a pattern in the area, police said Tuesday.

"I'm not going to say it's isolated. We've had some robberies in that particular area," said Capt. Roland Lee, commander of the 22nd Police District, headquartered at 17th Street and Montgomery Avenue - blocks from the victims' apartment near 18th and Berks streets.

Lee added that students have not been the only ones targeted in recent months.

Police on Tuesday released surveillance stills of the three men they believe followed a female student to her apartment about 7:30 p.m. Monday and forced their way into the apartment, tying her and her roommates with duct tape and stealing laptops, cellphones and cash. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday night.

Police described the men as black and between the ages of 20 and 25. One is 5 feet 7, 170 pounds and stocky and wore a red sweatshirt. The second is 5 feet 10, 150 pounds and thin with a goatee. He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The third, police said, is 5 feet 9 and 165 pounds with a medium build and short hair. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans. All three were armed.
