Feds: She stole

dead dad's benefits

A Northeast Philly woman was charged by federal prosecutors Wednesday for allegedly stealing her father's Social Security benefits for 15 years after his death.

Sophia Beltz, 54, of Homestead Street near Tacony in Wissinoming, began receiving her father's benefits when he died in February 1997, until it was discovered last August, authorities said. During that time she received a total of about $172,133, the government claims.

If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison, three years' supervised release, and a $250,000 fine and must pay restitution.
