Authorities today released surveillance video showing two "persons of interest" in the fatal shooting of a Camden man last month in the city.
Anibal Perez, 23, was shot several times on Feb. 26 as he sat in the driver's seat of his Honda Accord at the corner of 27th Street and Arthur Avenue in East Camden. He died at Cooper University Hospital.
His family has said Perez was returning home from a nearby liquor store after purchasing a bottle of Remy Martin VSOP, his favorite.
The video, recorded moments before his death, shows Perez walking into Vizcaya Liquor Store at 25th and Sherman Streets, about three blocks from where he was shot, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and city police said.
The footage, spliced together from several of the store's surveillance cameras, shows two men in a car outside the store watching Perez, who is wearing a baseball cap.
Both men are initially in what appears to be a dark-colored Dodge Charger. One man, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gets out of the Charger and follows Perez into the store, authorities said.
The man then follows Perez out of the store and gets into another vehicle, possibly a Ford Edge.
Both vehicles follow Perez' Accord with their headlights off.
The men are only persons of interest, authorities said, adding that it was not known if they played a role in Perez's death.
The Citizens Crime Commission has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the killing. The commission's tipline is 215-546-8477.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Michael Dougherty, an investigator with the prosecutor's office, at 856-225-8682 and Camden Det. Eliud Torres at 856-757-7420.
