Sat. Pa. girls: Girard College rallies

G'mrice Davis scored nine points through the first three quarters for Girard College, and the Cavaliers trailed by seven points entering the final period.

Davis turned it up a notch in the fourth quarter, and it paid off.

She scored 12 of Girard's 16 fourth-quarter points as the Cavaliers rallied to defeat Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 37-35, in the first round of the PIAA Class A girls' basketball tournament Saturday at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Davis, a junior, had 21 points, 12 rebounds, nine steals, and two blocks.

"She was a warrior," Cavaliers coach John Brown said. ". . . She dug deep."

Jenkintown 58, Paul Robeson 27 - Emma Dorshimer scored 15 of her 25 points in the third quarter as the Drakes earned the Class A victory at Archbishop Carroll. Ruby Westkaemper added 17 points.

Class AAA

Prep Charter 79, Eastern York 51 - Ciera Nimmons drained four three-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points in the victory at Southern. India Cauley added 16.  

Villa Maria 52, West York 40 - The Hurricanes went 21 for 22 from the foul line at Norristown. Jackie Carlin led Villa Maria with 16 points. Molly Namiotka added 12.

Gettysburg 45, Merion Mercy 36 - The Golden Bears cut a 16-point deficit to two before losing at Spring-Ford. Tina DiGiacomo had 13 points for Merion.

Bethlehem Catholic 60, Bonner-Prendergast 43 - The Pandas couldn't keep up with Bethlehem Catholic late in the game at William Allen. Alyssa Monaghan led the Pandas with 13 points, and her sister Sarah added 10.
