St. Joe's tops Duquesne; Temple upsets Charlotte

Erin Shields (Archbishop Carroll) led four Hawks in double figures as fourth-seeded St. Joseph's (21-8) beat fifth seed Duquesne, 73-60, in an Atlantic Ten women's quarterfinal at Hagan Arena on Saturday.

The Hawks advance to face top seed Dayton in the semifinals Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Dayton beat George Washington, 74-49.

Temple 48, Charlotte 47 - Forty minutes of a strong defensive effort led the Owls to an upset of the second-seeded 49ers (24-5) in the quarterfinals.

The 10th-seeded Owls (14-17) advance to a Sunday semifinal game against Fordham, a 65-48 winner over St. Louis.

Rateska Brown scored a career-high 23 points to lead Temple, hitting 5 of 7 from behind the arc as well as 6 of 7 from the free-throw-line.

"I felt like that was a great team effort," said Owls coach Tonya Cardoza. "We needed everything from everybody, and I felt like no matter what the situation, the biggest thing was just like yesterday - we stayed together."
