Laura Reppert Unger, 85, formerly of Paoli, a volunteer, died of complications from multiple myeloma Monday, March 4, at her home in Dunwoody Village, a retirement community in Newtown Square.

She moved there five years ago after residing in Paoli for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Unger was the widow of Richard C. Unger, longtime president of Unger Chevrolet in Phoenixville. He died in 2010, two weeks before their 60th anniversary.

Mrs. Unger was born in Altoona, Pa., the fourth of six girls. The family lived in Plainfield, N.J., before moving to Alexandria, Va., during World War II.

She graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, where her mother was a teacher. She attended Swarthmore College, her mother's alma mater, and graduated with a degree in English in 1949. It was there that she met her husband, who was in the Class of 1948.

After college, she was employed as a copywriter for two years by the advertising agency N.W. Ayer & Son in Philadelphia.

She married in 1950 and started a family, which grew to four boys within five years and six months.

Mrs. Unger volunteered for many organizations, including the Great Valley School District - where she served as a reading tutor - and the Paoli Library, whose board she headed. She was also an active member of Valley Friends Meeting for many years, serving as an overseer and as its clerk.

She enjoyed playing golf at Waynesborough Country Club, where she was a member for more than 40 years. She was also a member of the Hit or Miss Club, a Quaker golfing group for women.

Surviving are sons Richard C. Jr., John, Peter, and James; a sister; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Valley Friends Meeting, 1121 Old Eagle School Rd., Wayne. Interment is private.

Contributions may be made to Paoli Library, 18 Darby Rd., Paoli, Pa. 19301.

Condolences to the family may be offered at www.donohuefuneralhome.com.
