Pete Auteri is taking to this whole baseball thing pretty quickly.

The former lacrosse-player turned center fielder for La Salle bashed a first-inning grand slam in the Explorers' 14-2 win over visiting Roman Catholic in a Catholic League baseball game Friday.

Auteri, a senior playing his first varsity baseball season, went 3 for 3 with two doubles and drove in six runs. Senior first baseman Chris Melillo was also 3 for 3 and knocked in five runs.

In another Catholic League game:

Public A. George Washington scored four runs in the top of the ninth to win at Prep Charter, 13-9. Seven of Washington's 14 hits went for extra bases.

Public B. Khalil Coles struck out 13 to lead Ben Franklin to a 7-1 win at Roxborough. Coles also doubled.

Nonleague. Upper Moreland stranded the potential tying run on second base in the top of the seventh to kill a rally by visiting Penn Charter and preserve a 5-4 win. Boys' Latin rallied for three runs in the seventh and used a walk-off walk to defeat visiting Doane Academy, 7-6. Marcus Peele tied it with a two-run single with one out.

Sam Gerson needed only a home run for the cycle in Friends Select's 14-2 win at Solebury School. The senior center fielder went 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs. Gabe McCarthy was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. August Dichter tripled and drove in two runs.

Julian Salazar threw a one-hitter to lead host Springfield (Montco) over Quakertown, 12-0. The sophomore pitcher struck out eight and walked one. Senior shortstop Luke Pollack went 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Pete Ebert made the most of his chances at the plate in Lower Moreland's wild, 18-15, win over visiting Lansdale Catholic. The junior third baseman went 4 for 5 with a double and four RBIs.

Friends Schools. Aaron Ross homered and earned the pitching win in Friends' Central's 6-4 win at George School.

Eli Tatgenhorst allowed just one hit in five innings to get the victory as Germantown Friends won at Shipley, 7-2. Charlie Taterka's two-run single in the first inning gave Germantown Friends a lead it never surrendered.

Stephen Baratta struck out 14 in Westtown's 19-4 victory at Academy of New Church. He also doubled twice and scored four runs.

Bicentennial. Devon Prep scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to stun visiting MaST Charter, 7-6, in an inter-division game. Justin Wright doubled twice and drove in a run in the seventh. Zach Schellenger also had a run-scoring hit in the inning.
