The saga of Honey Love

Posted: April 11, 2013

HONEY LOVE, an Upper Darby mother from Sunshine Road, armed her 11-year-old son with two steak knives so they could seek vigilante justice for Love's daughter Monday night, police said.

She and her son were arrested, along with the teen who allegedly assaulted the girl, when the family went to settle the score, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said Tuesday.

About 8:30 p.m., Love's 12-year-old daughter was alone in her room with a 16-year-old boy when the boy tried to kiss and hug her, police said. When the girl tried to reject his advances, she fell on the floor, police said.

The teen stood over the girl and pulled down his pants and his underwear, Chitwood said. The girl's brother walked into the scene playing out in her bedroom and sent the teen running.

When the girl told her mom what happened, Love, 35, gathered six people, including three of her own kids, and the group went to the boy's house on Avon Road near Madeira, police said.

"Mom took the gang and was going to kick some ass, or cut some ass, one or the other," Chitwood said.

When the door was answered, all seven entered the home, where the alleged assailant was with his father and two brothers.

Love's 11-year-old son, who was armed with an 8-inch steak knife and a 4-inch steak knife, began swinging the weapons, police said.

"Then, Honey takes one of the knives from her 11-year-old and starts swinging it around," Chitwood said. Police arrived before any injuries occurred.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with attempted rape, sexual assault and related offenses. Love and her son were charged with assault and related offenses.
