Area's unemployment drops slightly

The unemployment rate in the Camden-Philadelphia-Wilmington metropolitan area dropped to 8.7 percent in February, down from 8.8 percent in January and 9.4 percent a year ago, the U.S. Labor Department reported Wednesday.

The unemployment rate fell to 9.7 percent in the Camden area, which includes Camden, Gloucester and Burlington counties. It had been 10.2 percent in January and 10.4 percent a year ago.

The 8.5 percent rate in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware and Chester Counties remained unchanged from January, as did the 8 percent in the Wilmington area, which includes parts of Maryland.
