A FISTFIGHT at an athletic field across the street from Overbrook High School on Thursday afternoon ended in a gunbattle, killing a student and wounding two other teens.
The violence erupted at Tustin Playground, 59th Street and Lancaster Avenue, at 3:45 p.m., police said. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, said Lt. John Walker, of Southwest Detectives. The teen was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where police said he was in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
Another 17-year-old male, whom officials said was an Overbrook student, was shot in the abdomen and found by a Good Samaritan on 59th Street, Walker said. The Samaritan drove the gravely wounded boy to Lankenau Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m.
