S. Jersey Boys: Tues. S.J. boys: Wash. Twp. edges Shawnee

Shaine Hughes capped a five-run second inning with a bases-clearing double in the second inning Tuesday and Washington Township won an Olympic Conference American Division baseball showdown with Shawnee, 6-5.

Washington Township is ranked fifth by The Inquirer and Shawnee is ranked eighth.

Tom Hildebrand also went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Washington Township.

Cape-Atlantic American. Chris Oakley gave up one hit over 52/3 shutout innings and St. Augustine blanked host Millville, 2-0.

Oakley also fanned seven for The Inquirer's second-ranked team.

St. Augustine's Barry Buchowski slugged a solo home run.

In other Cape-Atlantic American play, Holy Spirit's Ricky Hopkins whacked a pair of doubles and drove in four runs in a 10-8 victory at Oakcrest.

Colonial. Scott Irwin struck out six over seven shutout innings and Collingswood beat visiting Lindenwold, 9-0.

Audubon's Wayne Test struck out nine and threw seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 win at Overbrook.

Cape-Atlantic National. Kyle Andrews fanned 10 in seven innings and Kieran Tracey crushed a two-run double in Ocean City's 4-1 victory at Lower Cape May.

Olympic National. Christian Bilan hit a grand slam in Camden Catholic's 15-5 victory at Winslow Township.

Nonleague. Tim Holder went 3 for 3 with a double to help The Inquirer's top-ranked team, Gloucester Catholic, beat visiting Pennsville, 11-8.

Isaiah Lewis had a pair of hits and RBIs to help Westampton Tech earn a 7-6 win at Camden County Tech.

Tyler O'Dell's two-run home run helped send Northern Burlington to a 4-3 win at New Egypt.
