Update: Police said Thursday that thanks to tips from the public, they have arrested Abraham Cordova, 26, of the 7200 block of Horrocks Street, and charged him with  attempted murder, attempted rape, aggravated assault and related charges.

Philadelphia police were trying Wednesday to identify a man suspected of attempting to rape a 63-year-old woman in her Rhawnhurst home last week.

The man, with a bushy ponytail coming out the back of an Atlanta Braves baseball cap, was recorded on surveillance video at a Chinese takeout store.

The surveillance video can be viewed at http://bit.ly/15n6iy4 on the Police Department's YouTube channel.

Capt. John Darby, commanding officer of the Special Victims Unit, described the man as a Latino male in his mid-20s, around 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 7 inches tall, about 140 to 150 pounds, with a thin goatee.

He was driving what investigators believe is a 1991 to 1994 white Toyota Celica.

Darby called the attack "horrific."

Shortly after midnight on April 11 in the 7900 block of Loretto Avenue, the woman was changing for bed when she was assaulted by a man who had climbed into the house through a window, Darby said.

During the attack, the assailant pulled out a hammer and struck the woman "repeatedly about the head and face," Darby said. The woman started screaming and the attacker fled.

A neighbor heard the screams and came to the woman's aid, Darby said.

The woman required emergency surgery at Wills Eye Institute, Darby said, adding that "her vision is pretty much in jeopardy."
