D.A.: Bucks man kills ex-wife, dies in shootout with police

Posted: April 19, 2013

A Bucks County man who allegedly killed his ex-wife in front of their 16-year-old daughter was shot to death by police in an armed confrontation late Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Kenneth Philipp, 50, was pulled over by a police officer in Northampton Township and allegedly fired a 12-gauge shotgun at the officer, who returned fire and killed Philipp, said Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler.

Philipp earlier had rammed his Lincoln Town Car into the rear of a Nissan Altima driven by his daughter outside a dress shop in Lower Southampton about 5:30 p.m., Heckler said.

He then went to the passenger window and fired three times at his ex-wife, whom Heckler declined to identify. She was killed and the daughter was wounded in the hand.

Philipp had an active protection-from-abuse order against him. Last November, he was arrested for appearing at his ex-wife's house with a knife. He was found guilty of several offenses and was sentenced to probation.
