St. Joseph's will have an athlete competing at the NCAA Division I men's track and field championships next month for the first time in 27 years.
Camden Catholic graduate Kevin McDonnell, a graduate student at St. Joe's, finished sixth in the 10,000 meters at the East Regional in Reensboro, N.C., on Thursday night. His time of 29 minutes, 59.82 seconds was good enough to make the 12-runner field. The championships will take place in Eugene, Ore., from June 5 to 8. The 10,000 final is scheduled for June 6.
Steve Ave was the last male athlete to qualify for the NCAA championships. He competed in the 1,000 indoors and the 1,500 outdoors in 1986.
